Just A Theory (originally ScienceFM) began in 2015 as a small outreach project with a big goal - to create interesting science podcasts with a purpose. In season 1 and 2, we interviewed Iowa City scientists and undergraduate students involved in research in the hopes of increasing community awareness of ongoing research initiatives and present science in a manner that is conducive to learning. We strive to humanize research and display the ‘faces behind the projects’. In this way, we are working to create an interface for communication across disciplines in order to facilitate the spread of new ideas.

Season 3 is, admittedly, an experiment - some episodes are true podcasts, and others are instead adapted from radio shows that Nicholas and Shahaed have recorded on 89.7 KRUI, a radio station in the Iowa City/Coralville area. We are attempting to portray and communicate scientific theories in a manner that solidifies their truth and importance to those that would otherwise doubt their merits. A theory is "an idea used to account for a situation or justify a course of action.". In the case of science, a theory has been experimentally demonstrated numerous times, and has yet to be experimentally discredited. Thus, theories are generally considered to be the truth. Examples are the theory of evolution, germ theory and cell theory.

We are working on building sustainable, high-quality content for your enjoyment. Each and every podcast is crafted with a lot of love and hard work. We hope that you enjoy listening as much as we enjoy creating.
